MST4，又稱哺乳動物STE20樣蛋白激酶4，是人類Ste20樣激酶生髮中心激酶亞家族的新成員，與MST3密切相關。 416 個胺基酸的全長 MST4 含有一個 C 端調節結構域和一個 N 端激酶結構域，這兩個結構域都是激酶完全活化所必需的。 MST4 在胎盤、胸腺和周邊血白血球中高度表現。 MST4 在瞬時轉染細胞或穩定細胞系中特異性活化 ERK 但不會活化 JNK 或 p38 MAPK，因此在活化介導細胞生長和轉化的 MEK/ERK 路徑中具有生物活性。此外，表皮生長因子受體 (EGFR) 配體顯著刺激 MST4 激酶活性，已知其能促進某些癌細胞的生長。因此，MST4 在參與癌症進展的訊號傳導路徑中具有潛在作用。已經分離出三種 MST4 剪接異構體，其中異構體 3 缺少編碼激酶結構域的外顯子，可能發揮 MST4 激酶的顯性負調節劑的作用。
