艾杜醣醛酸 2-硫酸酯酶，也稱為 IDS，是高度保守的硫酸酯酶家族的成員，可催化多種底物中 O- 和 N-硫酸酯的水解。人類艾杜醣醛酸 2-硫酸酯酶/IDS 由信號肽、原肽和成熟鏈組成，可進一步加工成兩條鏈。在已鑑定的 18 種人類硫酸酯酶中，艾杜糖酸 2-硫酸酯酶/IDS 是溶小體降解糖胺聚醣 (GAG)、硫酸肝素和硫酸皮膚素所必需的。此X染色體定位基因的多個突變造成艾杜糖酸2-硫酸酯酶/IDS酶缺乏，並導致性連鎖黏多醣貯積症II型（MPS II），也稱為亨特氏症，其特徵是GAG在溶小體中積聚並經由尿液排出。由於艾杜醣醛酸 2-硫酸酯酶/IDS 酶的水平不同，MPS II 的臨床表現範圍很廣，從輕微到嚴重不等。逆轉錄病毒介導的艾杜醣醛酸 2-硫酸酯酶/IDS 基因轉移到淋巴細胞將是一種有前途的基因治療策略。
